 The Route 85 km

Varigotti - Finale Ligura - Albenga - Alassio - Imperia - Cipressa - Riva Ligura - Poggio - Sanremo

Route information

The last 85km of Italys most famous single day Classic Road race. This starts at Varigotti which already places you on the coast road traveling west towards Sanremo. The first half of the route is fairly undulating  with  constant small hills as we pass the many towns & resorts along this stretch of Mediterranean coast. After passing the resort of Alassio you start to take on the three short steep hills 'Capo Mele,Cervo & Berta that are the prelude to the toughest hill of the ride the Cipressa. After descending this climb its back to more flat coastal road until we take a right hand turn inland & up the famous spring board climb of the Poggio di Sanremo. This last hill is famous in Cycling due to numerous winners of the race that have attacked on it. In recent years though the race has come down to a exiting sprint finish in Via Roma SanRemo.

Although this race is known to be extremely tough due to the distance (294km), high speed & the small hills so close to the finish. It does not mean that the last 85km are tough roads for everyone! Most of the ride is very easy & even the hills are not too steep or long. This makes this a ideal ride for every taste.
